Village of Hazelton

An incorporated municipality in northwest British Columbia. This page is for the two things people come to a village website to do: find out what Council decided, and find out what is happening now.

Concept This is an unofficial concept by JnP Studio. It is not the Village's website and the Village has not seen it. What it changes and why →

Closures, works, hearings, tenders and election dates. Everything posted here carries the date it goes up and the date it comes down.

Nothing in effect today

There are no notices in effect for the Village of Hazelton right now.

This concept invents nothing, so it has no notices to show — and that is the point of the design. An empty notice board is an honest one. It is better than a page that still carries a pandemic advisory and a closed nomination package because nobody has a way to take them down.

Agendas & minutes

The Village keeps its meeting record in eSCRIBE

Agendas, minutes and meeting packages are published and maintained in eSCRIBE. That part of the Village's setup already works, so this concept links straight to it rather than keeping a second, staler copy on the website.

Next Council meeting

The date, time, place and agenda link for the next regular meeting of Council belong here, drawn from eSCRIBE so the office never has to type a date twice.

This concept does not print a meeting date, because guessing one on a government website is worse than showing none.

Fix this first

The 2015–2020 meetings page is broken in public

The page that is supposed to hold six years of Council meetings currently renders a wall of server warnings instead of content. It is the oldest public record the Village holds online, and right now nobody can read it.

About the Village

The Village of Hazelton is an incorporated municipality in the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, in northwest British Columbia. It was incorporated in 1956 and is governed by an elected Mayor and Council, with a small staff working out of the Village office on Field Street.

The Village of Hazelton is its own municipality. It is not the District of New Hazelton, which is a separate local government with its own Council and its own office.

The Village's own description of itself

A short account of the community — what it is like to live here, what the Village does, what it is working on — belongs in this space, written by the Village.

A river running fast over shallow rock through a spruce-lined valley, with a rock bluff on the far bank.
